Habersham Teacher of the Year

The Habersham County Teacher of the Year is Cindy Clark of the South Habersham Sixth Grade Academy.  Cindy shared with those at the board meeting how she felt that she was truly called to teach and that she felt we were the best place to be.  In a statement to the teachers of Habersham County, Ms. Clark said, "Thank you so much for this incredible honor. I am humbled to represent the teachers of our county. I wish that all teachers had the opportunity to reflect on their choice of profession. It's very rejuvenating. It was an honor to hear all the teachers' stories last night on the video. We are each unique with our own special stories and gifts that we offer our community. I'm proud to count myself as one of Habersham county's educators. I will do my best to represent all our educators with grace, humor and professionalism."

Extra Mile  Service Above Self

Congratulations to Misty Turpin on receiving the June Extra Mile Award

Dr. Judy Forbes presented the Extra Mile Award to Misty Turpin, Assistant Principal at Cornelia Elementary.  She was nominated by her staff for the support that she gives teachers and the work that she does to maintain high standards at her school.  Dr. Forbes presented her a framed certificate of recognition and a gift certificate to Gusben’s.

Congratulations to Daniel Seales on receiving the June Service Above Self Award

Dr. Forbes presented the Habersham Sunrise Rotary Service Above Self Award to Daniel Seales. Mr. Seales provides translation assistance for the schools and the system.  Most of the system forms are been translated by Mr. Seales so that all parents receive communication from the schools.  He was nominated by his peers because of the diligence, poise, and positive attitude he demonstrated during the busy spring months as many meetings were held with parents.  Dr. Forbes presented him a framed certificate of recognition and a gift certificate to Fenders.

The Habersham County School System is very fortunate to have such hard working and dedicated employees.  Several years ago the system established the Extra Mile Award to recognize those employees who have gone above and beyond their job responsibilities.  Over the years, we have only been able to recognize a very small percentage of those individuals, and as our system continues to grow it will become even harder to recognize all the deserving individuals.

Thanks to the Sunrise Rotary Club we now have the opportunity to offer a new award called Service Above Self. This award will also be given to an individual who goes above and beyond their job responsibilities.  Since we now have two awards, we will recognize one certified employee and one classified employee each month.  Please use the Extra Mile form to nominate a certified employee and the Service Above Self form to nominate a classified employee.  Hopefully, this will allow us to recognize the hard work of more of our employees. Please remember that we are trying to honor the employee that goes above and beyond their job duties.

Nominate someone for the Extra Mile or Service Above Self Award

Every person employed in the Habersham County School System works very hard to make sure that the students’ needs are met and that we have a safe work place for our employees.  These awards are intended to recognize those individuals who have “gone the extra mile” or put "service above self" in a specific situation in their building and who deserve an extra pat on the back for their outstanding performance of duties. Criteria for this recognition include: (1) Motivation to perform duties which is above that which is expected. (2) Performing additional tasks which are not anticipated for the job to make the educational process better and more efficient for students.
