Habersham County Schools Board Beliefs

1.     The primary purpose of schools is to create tasks that are intellectually engaging and that result in each student’s learning content, knowledge, and skills that the community indicates should be acquired and developed at continuously higher levels.

2.     Teachers are leaders whose responsibility is to identify, create, and design activities that engage students and that result in the students’ learning what it is intended they learn.

3.     Principals are leaders of leaders and, as such, are expected to communicate and model to teachers and other staff who work with them the vision that guides the district and the specific mission that their school is charged with pursuing in order to realize this vision.

4.     All employees of the school district are responsible for the quality of the educational experiences provided students and for the expression of care and concern for each child’s performance and safety in school.

5.     The board of education ensures that the school system is organized to promote and sustain the development of all employees as leaders and as technically competent professionals by providing the highest-quality professional development, including opportunities for collegial support and interaction.

6.     A primary function of the board of education is to establish a clear vision and direction for the school district by enacting policies and supporting procedures and programs consistent with a clearly articulated set of beliefs.

7.     A primary function of the board is to ensure the fiscal integrity of the school district.

8.     The board of education exerts a leadership role in the community to ensure that children have the support needed for success in school.

9.     The board of education values all who work in and for the district and embraces the expectation that the system be responsive to parents, children, and other citizens.

10.    Relationships among board members and between board members and the superintendent should inspire confidence among the public that the business of the school district is being conducted by thoughtful and responsible men and women who respect and trust each other and seriously consider each other's views, even when they may disagree.
